Expendables 3 opens this sumer with a bunch of old action heroes, coming together to kick Mel Gibson's butt. I hear Sylvester Stallone's character co-founded the titular group with Mel Gibson's character, but now Mel Gibson's character is an arms dealer and much metatextual old-school action with older action stars will result.
If The Expendables 3 does well, that could pave the way for The Expendables 4 and Pierce Brosnan wants on this old-action choo-choo train.
Coming Soon spoke with Brosnan on the occasion of his Nick Horby adaptation film A Long Way Down and he revealed he'd thrown his hat into the Expendables ring:
"I said to [producer] Avi Lerner, 'If it works out and you have a good script, Avi, you know where to find me if you still want me.' It's as simple as that really," Brosnan confirmed. "I had a grand time in his company. Sylvester Stallone is the one that's given us these wonderful platforms for actors who have and had careers to go play and have fun and to entertain. To bring a bunch of guys together who saved the world, fought the bad guys, and put them all on the same stage, that's crazy good."
Then he defends Kelsey Grammer, then he calls the Expendables franchise a "kick in the pants."
The Expendables 3 comes out August 15th and will not feature Pierce Brosnan. A Long Way Down comes out July 11th and will.
