Exclusive: Frank Grillo Circling The Lead In 'SKYLINE' Sequel

– by Kellvin Chavez

During this year's Cannes Film Festival it was annoucned that there will be a sequel to 2010's low-budget sci-fi alien invasion tale "Skyline," which is called "Beyond Skyline".  Liam O'Donnell, the writer and producer of the first film is set to direct the sequel.

In the sci-fi thriller "Skyline," strange lights descend on the city of Los Angeles, drawing people outside like moths to a flame where an extraterrestrial force threatens to swallow the entire human population off the face of the earth.

Over the weekend my source told me that Frank Grillio (Captain America: The Winter Soldier, The Purge: Anarchy) is the lead in the "Skyline" sequel, and that it would be some sort of reboot, supposedly the sequel's storyline takes place at the same time the first one did. The first Skyline had something of a twist ending that suggested where a sequel might go with those characters, but a simultaneous timeframe between the original and it's sequel means we probably won't pick up on the ongoing adventures of Jarrod's new body.

The original film, directed by the Brothers Strause, scored negative reviews, so why did they green light the sequel? Simple: it grossed $78.6 million worldwide on a $10 million budget. And that's not including rentals and NetFlix and DVD sales. It made back three times its budget, an easy choice for a sequel.
