Batman v Superman and Robins

It's worth saying that the following can be considered a spoiler for next year's "Batman v Superman." If you don't want to be spoiled, then look away while you still can.

Ever since Ben Affleck's Batman was added to cast list of "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" and director Zack Snyder told San Diego Comic Con that he was inspired by Frank Miller's "The Dark Knight Returns," the question of Robin has been on everyone's mind.

Christopher Nolan chose to cap off his "Dark Knight Trilogy" with a Robin tease, but that didn't seem to be enough for fans. Despite being burned once by Chris O'Donnell's Robin in "Batman Forever" and "Batman and Robin," it seems like fan appetite for a cinematic portrayal of the character is at an all-time high.

But will we get it? Here's what we know so far.

For "Batman v Superman," Snyder decided to focus on an older version of Batman that has already existed in the universe for some time, sparking rumors that Jena Malone was going to be Carrie Kelley, the female Robin from comic "The Dark Knight Returns."

Earlier this year, we broke the news that Malone will actually be playing Barbara Gordon (a.k.a. Batgirl/Oracle), so that rules her out as a potential Robin. But we still know that Robin has some involvement in the film, as the trailer revealed a vandalized Robin suit to our unsuspecting eye. But which Robin was killed?

In the comics, The Joker kills Jason Todd. If they're going with that whole backstory in "Batman v Superman," will it still be Jason Todd?

Fans who know their Robin mythology also know that Jason Todd is the second Robin, not the first. Will the dead Robin also be Jason Todd in the film, or will he be replaced by Dick Grayson? Based on a very close and trusted source, we can confirm that this is also the case in the film.

Jason Todd is indeed the dead Robin in "Batman v Superman," and he is also the second Robin that Batman has worked with. What's more is that Dick Grayson, the first Robin, will get a shoutout in the movie!

In early versions of the story, Grayson was supposed to show up as Nightwing (as we broke a couple years back), but somewhere along the line, it was dropped.

Now we know he wasn't cut entirely, and luckily for us, Grayson wasn't made to take a fatal beating from the Joker off-screen in Jason Todd's place.
